Bridging the Gap: St. Joseph Academy is Rethinking School Counseling

2022-09-09T15:44:21-04:00May 17th, 2022|

Long considered an integral part of a school’s support system, school counselors bring a wealth of insight and resources to a variety of student-centered issues. As part of a team of mental health experts, school counselors work with students individually and collectively to create a school climate that leads to healthy learning, living, and growth.

The specific roles that a school counselor takes on vary, depending to some extent on needs within the school and the presence of other professionals with overlapping roles and areas of expertise, such as psychologists and social workers. But, in general, as the American School Counselor Association explains, counselors’ work today falls into three […]

St. Joseph Academy; A Student-Centered Approach

2022-09-15T08:35:36-04:00May 17th, 2022|

We all want our children to be happy and to have the lives and careers they want. We want them to do well in school, respect teachers, get along with others, feel safe, and feel that they belong to a community. We want them to be able to explore what interests and excites them and have opportunities to learn and get better with their skills and talents.

There is more to school than academics, and there is more to life. Children grow into adulthood with interests in the areas that will draw their time and talents. While they strive for intellectual development and the knowledge […]

Skills Based Curriculum; Because Tomorrow’s Jobs Do Not Exist Yet!

2022-09-21T15:32:16-04:00May 17th, 2022|

St. Joseph Academy is positioning itself to be at the forefront of an educational movement. Simple logic tells us that memorization and content delivery will no longer serve our students and the world they stand to inherit. Recent studies predict that roughly 70% of our students are destined for jobs that don’t yet exist. Yet, few schools have managed to pivot and evolve their Academic Programs.

At St. Joseph Academy, our courses are taught differently. We are changing what and more importantly how we teach. Our teachers focus more intently on skill development and student engagement than they do on delivering content. This […]

Keeping Up With… Jenna Calchi

2022-11-18T09:25:39-05:00May 17th, 2022|

High school is generally a time to study hard, discover new academic loves, find lifelong friends, and prepare one’s self to take the next step in their developmental journey. It is no easy feat to successfully handle all the pressures that this stage of life throws at our students. The constraints of excelling academically, athletically, and socially tend to weigh heavy on them. But when a student comes along that not only meets these expectations but overachieves in each of these categories, one can only applaud the Herculean effort it took to get there. For Saint Joseph Academy, that student is Jenna Calchi.

Jenna, Class of 2023, is a […]
